TIMOTHY WISDOM

TimothyWisdom_CartoonCharacterTimothyWisdom_TimEatingARecord

Timothy Wisdom is the most sought-after powerhouse behind Vancouver’s
exploding intentional dance community. His sets literally lift audiences off
their feet, arousing ecstatic screams from the crowd in a relentless stream
of perpetual sonic mayhem. Combining the tricks of turntablism and MCing,
with productions that cross multiple music styles, his shows are far from
your average night out dancing. Just when you thought the party couldn’t get
any better, Timothy Wisdom will get the place roaring.

PLUMDRAGONESS

Gabrielle Casella initially became interested in yoga practices during her childhood as a result of visiting her Sikh friends & neighbors who had a private shrine/studio in their home. Stimulated by her early interest in the healing arts she began as a young adult studying Hatha and later Ashtanga yoga while in college from 1996-1998. In 1999, Gabrielle immersed herself in the Chinese medical practices of Taoist internal/martial art forms by training with Master Chik Quadir Mason, founder of the Spirit Wind Internal Arts Society (www.spiritwind.be). She received certifications of study in various healing arts such as Kung Fu, Pa-Kua Chang, Dao Yin Yoga, Chi Kung, Tai Chi Chuan, in addition to bodywork techniques such as Lin Zi Chi Therapy & Thai Massage, as well as participating in group collaborations, demonstrations & performances. In 2000, she earned her B.A. from Temple University’s Department of Theater with an exploratory concentration in dance, music & voice. As an apprentice, Gabrielle was recommended by Sifu Mason to begin teaching his lessons & encouraged to integrate them along with the material she studied as a multi-disciplinary performance artist. In 2001, she joined the Philadelphia based theater company, ArcheDream for HumanKind where she began to develop her signature style of movement meditation in combination with performance presentation into a system of practice. Aside from her role as assistant artistic director, she was a lead performer and choreographer who also facilitated healing arts & theater/movement/dance workshops training company members until 2006 (www.archedream.com). Gabrielle’s work as a healing arts practitioner and instructor continues to intersect with her work as an inter-disciplinary performance artist through the incorporation of internal and martial arts forms in combination with dance, poetry and theater presentation (www.myspace.com/plumdragoness). Gabrielle is a certified yoga teacher, registered & insured through the Yoga Alliance.  She has also studied Ashtanga Yoga with Miko-Doi Smith, Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers, Vinyasa Yoga with the Rasa School, Yang style T’ai Chi Chuan with Master Yang Jun, Taoist (Yin/Yang) Yoga with Master Pauli Zink & Thai Bodywork with Michael Buck. She facilitates private lessons, group classes/workshops & is available for Thai Bodywork sessions.

SIX: Jonah K Digital Art Show: December 3 to January 3, 2010

Om Message Board -- View topic - SIX - [new digital avatars by jonah kamphorst] (visual art)-1

An exploration into DIY divinity…

Did the Spirits create us in their image? Or is it the opposite? Historically speaking, it is evident that humans have imprinted their own faces on their ‘gods’ in order to understand and relate to them better. Many different faces, forms and stories … but all expressions of the same intangible entities.

The ancient, static and primarily patriarchal faces of divinity and their vast, restrictive dogma and mythologies are no longer sufficient. It is time to reclaim our individual ability and right to relate to the spiritual world through our own, personal lenses.

‘Six’ is a light-hearted exploration into creating several of these avatars. I invite you to meet Nur, Xyn, Alaat, Oolam, Sunrah and Ixar. Six powerful, playful and beautiful Goddesses that will manifest themselves at the Trapdoor Boutique.

They will be accepting an audience for most of December, but I hope to see you at the Opening!

Opening Reception, Thursday, December 3, 2009
7:00pm – 11:00p

Show runs from Dec 3rd to Jan 3rd

Location:

Trapdoor Boutique & Gallery – 2993 Dundas St. W.

A long-time favourite of ours, Dan Bell is a most amazing DJ and producer who promises to shake the dance floor with his DEEP and driving beats.  Most known for his marathon sets,  this Halloween Mr. Bell will be playing a super special 3 hour set! While living in Detroit during the 90′s, Daniel Bell created a new musical vocabulary for techno music based on “Blips” and “Bleeps” and streamlined repetetive rhythms. His music went on to influence a generation of producers from Josh Wink and Richie Hawtin to the minimal house sound in Germany. Best known for his timeless classic “Losing Control” and releases on his label “Accelerate”.

He calls these tracks Komodo Dubs. And he’s awesome!

ABOUT  THE FILM:

Our good friend, Peter Mettler, who brought us “Gambling, Gods and LSD” has just finished yet another great film “PETROPOLIS: AERIAL PERSPECTIVES ON THE ALBERTA TAR SANDS”.  Produced by Greenpeace Canada, this film, shot primarily from a helicopter, offers an unparalleled view of the world’s largest industrial, capital and energy project – Canada’s Tar Sands. A place where petroleum’s power is supreme and where the disastrous effect on our Earth’s land, air, water and climate is inconceivable.

Find out more about the film and watch the trailer at www.petropolis-film.com.

Even better – buy tickets and watch it at Toronto’s International Film Festival!
